Please Help.... Can't get rid of pop up ads

Hi,
I have been getting pop up ads recently on my MAC. I obviously watch or opened up a site which I think was through facebook but now cant seem to get rid of the pop ups no matter what I try.
Also when I do a google search my search results leave google and go to another search engine I haven't heard of before.
Please help and tell me what I need to do to get rid of it all??

Here is a good place to start to diagnose and resolve that particular issue:

Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac

Let us know if anything there is confusing or if it doesn't correct the issue.
