Pics from iPhone download to Laptop AND ALL PICS on laptop were deleted?!

I downloaded pics from iphone to Mac, it asked me if I wanted to delete the photos I said yes and when I looked all the pics on my laptop are gone! How do I get them back?

All that is on my computer now (from the 12,000 pics and projects I had) are the ones from my iphone. I am terrified right now,

Hi,

First check iPhoto or Aparture trash, if empty you can restore photo libaray from a recent Time Machine backup.

Also did you use image capture for the photo download?

Usually the "do you want to delete the photos" dialog box isn't referring to the photos on your Mac's hard drive but the photos on the connected device …
