Permissions won't repair - eating up memory?

I have a Macbook pro OSX 10.8.5 with 4 GB. Safari is version 6.0.5.
It’s slow online and off, and occasionally freezes.

Activity Monitor shows Disk Usage 365 GB free but Memory is always around 3 MB or less if online. Offline it’s about 6 at best with no programs open.

Disk Utility shows the HD is fine but Permissions are way off. Permissions errors are more than 60 Itunes -& Itunes library, all identical. Permissions always show to be repaired when I run repair but if I verify immediately after they are exactly the same – not repaired.

My iTunes is version 11.1 (126). It needs an update but I’m reluctant because of what’s going on.

Any suggestions?

Ensure you have a full and current backup.

Its hard to tell if you are confusing RAM up to 4Gig mostly around 3 is great, and Hard Drive 365Gig again thats fine lots of space.

To repair some Permission problems you have to boot from another drive, you should always ensure you have a full backup before messing with any File/Disk utilities.
