Hi all,
I have searched the forums for an answer to this question, and the same on Google, with no result... If anyone can help at all I'd really appreciate it.

I have just transferred all my files from my old G4 to my newly acquired G5 Mac Pro, switching from OS 10.4 to 10.6 in the process.
But the permissions of my files are giving me problems. I can't save or edit them without manually changing the setting in the file info box, all individually! (The problem seems to be the files are 'owned' by a previous user, which was my account on my G4, and need to be changed to 'owned' by my new account).

Why doesn't 'Apply to enclosed items' work? When I change the settings for my home folder (or any folder) and apply it to the enclosed items, it DOESN'T BLOODY WELL DO THAT !! Why?

Note: I have little experience in using the 'Terminal' window to do stuff, but am willing to try.

Thanks guys.... :)

No, but I think this may help you:

Reset Home Folder Permissions Mac OS X 10.6/10.7

Make sure you select the "With Install Disc" tab.

Let us know how you get on with this.

Great, thanks a million !
It worked, and now I can open all my own documents... amazing.
There was one catch, though: It only did it to files inside the actual 'user' folder, but I store all my stuff on a second internal HDD, not in the user folder. So at first, it didn't work.
So I copied all my files into the user folder, then re-did the process, with success, then re-copied everything back to the second HDD where it now works fine.

Thanks again, you guys are great :D
