There is no way to make the story short, and I am desperate for help.
Mac G5 - OS 10.3. Has been running for 5 years with automatic log on. Attached a new monitor (Samsung) which required me to download and install monitor control software. At start of installation, asked for name and password. Person who originally set password long gone.
Went onto internet and tried everything suggested. When I load original disk and press 'c' it just started up normally, with disk icon on desktop. When selecting ' install ' icon, it asked for name and password (duh!). Eventually tried setting up new account to attempt to load software. Now Mac does not recognize new account password. Finally, the Mac now starts up straight away asking for either password..administrator (not known) or new account (not recognized).
So the simple act of replacing a bust monitor with a new one has rendered a very important piece of equipment...totally useless.
Is there anyone who can help with this frustrating problem? It would be much appreciated.
George
