SOLVED Password question

I have recently acquired a MacBook Air just so I could learn what the Mac world is beyond my iPad. It is equipped with OS X El Capitan and says an update is available.
My question (probably the first of many): when trying to include the MacBook on my password software I downloaded the software but can’t install it. Because it posts a sign in screen with my name as user and asks for a password. What password? Was I supposed to name the computer apart from inserting my name as owner?

Possibly this is the password set up to log on after the Mac has woken from sleep or shut down or to install downloaded apps. You would have added this to System preferences - security - privacy- general.
