Pages Problem (iWork 08)

G'day,

I'm seeking some help for a problem I'm having with Pages (iWork 08)

Specs
iMac 7.1
OS X 10.5.8
2 GHz
4 GB Ram

Problems
Firstly, I have been having issues with the font palette. When I click on 'fonts' button in Pages it has taken to crashing the program. Obviously there are other ways to change fonts in the program, but it would be good to fix this.

A second problem that has arisen began yesterday. I selected the 'special characters' palette from the drop down menu and a dialogue box opened, but only partially - it never really seemed to fully load. Since then, it has continued to appear every time I switch between programs and is becoming annoying.

Attempted Solutions
With no success I have tried the following...
Quitting the program and reopening.
Restarting the computer
Shutting down the computer
Quitting the process from the Activity Monitor panel. Process Name is CharPaletteServer
(if you can catch it as it disappears quickly once displayed. The time I was able to bring up the info, it said that it was closed)

Any help would be appreciated.

Matt,

I trust that you've checked for any updates for iWork that you might need to install. If you haven't, just run Software Update (Apple Menu > Software Update) to see if there is updates for iWork.

Since this is an Apple app, I'd suggest running Disk Utility and repair permissions (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility).

If that does not help, then I'd look into font caches. Font cache could be causing the problem. Go to Applications > Font Book. Make sure you have "All Fonts" selected on the navigation left-hand side bar. Then go to File > Validate Fonts. The software will let you know if any fonts are corrupted. You can then read the report Font Book generates and see if you have any trouble font(s).
