I am using an older non intel dual processor mac with ox x 10.5.8 and continue to get messages that my Safari is no longer supported. I cannot download any current browser because they don't work with my current operating system. Am I stuck with buying a new operating system? The computer works great and I hate to go to the trouble of purchasing and learning a new system when everything else seems to work fine. Frustrating that it seems as if I am being forced to upgrade when it is not needed.

Hello and welcome.

-What is the exact model of the Mac? Use System Information > Model Identifier
-Is there a particular website that is giving you this error, or is more of a random thing?

Depending on the exact model of your Mac, unfortunately age may have caught up to it. You may be able to upgrade to a newer version of OS X, which would support newer versions of browsers.

Once we know which model you have, we can figure out the best solution for you going forward.

Unfortunately, due to the age of your G5, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 is the most current version you can run. In addition, the version of Safari that you have (5.0.8?) is also the most current it will run. And, due to it being a PPC processor and not an Intel, there really aren't any third-party browser options either.

You are pretty much stuck with the websites you can access, and the only option to enable access to any that give you compatibility errors is to buy a newer Mac with a more current version of OS X and Safari. Or, you could get into an iPad or similar device.

Sorry for the bad news,

C
