OS X Upgrade Order

Hi,

I'm new to Mac, and I'm trying to update my girlfriend's computer. She has 10.5.8 on there now and i tried to put 10.8 on there but it said I need 10.6.7 or higher. I was able to get 10.6.7, but that one said I needed 10.6 or higher to update.

Is there a way I can find out what is the correct sequence of updates I can install so I don't wast time/money?

You have to step through them all.
If her Mac started on 10.5 I doubt it will go all the way to 10.8, check the requirements at each step as you move forward.

As Kaveman said you need Snow Leopard in order to get to Mountain Lion have a look here.
