I don’t know whether I’m having problems with the hardware or the operating system. Imac7.1 running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
The system began to run very slowly, halt in the middle of things and sometimes seizes up and freezes. For example, it gets stuck midway in switching between Spaces, and a few times does a weird fast oscillation between two Spaces.
I took it to an Apple repairer who said that the motherboard and RAM were OK, but the Hard Disc was compromised. So he replaced it.
Unfortunately it has started doing all this nonsense again. If I restart I have a day or so of normal working, then all the defects creep back in. It’s as if the RAM is getting clogged up so the machine can’t do more than one thing at a time. Internet access is vanishingly tardy, as if the iMac forgets to ask for things and the router lights don’t flash.
Does anyone recognise this and can say what’s happening?
