Number of items in a folder with Lion

With every operating system before Lion, when you opened a folder, at the bottom of the window appeared a line stating how many items in the folder. This no longer happens with Lion. Is there any key combination etc. that will produce this info? Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS 10.7.2.
