No hard drive?

I'm trying to install "10.5.4" on my mac. When I start up, it shows me a folder with a question mark. I insert the install disk 1, and go to disk utility where it shows "Media" and the install disk information and whatnot. There isn't any Macintosh HD though, just Media. When I click continue and proceed to the install menu where I get to select the destination to install Mac OS X, there aren't any options. Do I not have a hard drive? How do I fix this?

Additional info: I cannot partition "Media" because it says it's too small to have partitions

It sounds like you may need to format the Drive.

Strange you would use a handle like that to get support from an Mac Help forum, doesn't really inspire me to want to help you.

It's more of a joke. Frustrated because I've gone through 3 iMacs already. One being lost due to a virus that Apple promised to protect us against, and the other two having the same problem as what I've stated in this post. I would like to keep a mac for business and office work, because I do really enjoy using them, but I would like to switch over to PC for gaming and such, seeing as how macs aren't necessarily made for gaming.

Your reply is much appreciated, if you do decide to help me further, I would be very thankful.

I don't recall Apple every making that promise. There have been NO virus for OSX, there has been a handful of Trojans. These require someone to install them, and 1 JAVA drive-by exploit , this required visiting an exploit site and having an old version of JAVA, which isn't an Apple product. I believe there is also a Flash (Adobe) exploit.

installing an OS that was released in 26 October 2007, thats over 5 years old, I can't imagine that a PC that old would be any good for "games".

The current Macs have standard Intel CPUs and Standard ATI Radeon GPUs, these are exactly the same hardware PCs have. The Mac App Store has 1,000s of games and if you wanted something that the Developer decided to release as "Windows Only" then you can install and run Windows on your Mac too.

This gives you the very best of both worlds, all the easy to use Mac Software and all the "Windows Only" games and other old Windows software.
