Bill got banished from my house in 2003. I've been doing various linux desktops since then.
I'm writing on a macbook, intel HW running tiger.
I have two huge problems with this Mac.
First, for the life of me I can't figure out how X11 is supposed to work. It certainly doesn't "just work". I've installed, uninstalled, and installed three times - whenever I try to run Gimp, the menu bar flashes X11, then shows a single gimp menu item, then disappears.
Second, shouldn't gcc be installed? If not, how do I get it? I'm running into too many utilities where gnu configure-make-make install should work, but it helps to start with a compiler.
I'd like to get these two running and tap into the stuff I'm used to using - seems like all the comparable utilities made specifically for mac cost a lot of money...
