My Airport Extreme Card-No Range-HELP!

My Airport Extreme Card works but has terrible range. I have to be at least 10 feet of the wireless router for it to work. Is it a problem with the Airport card or the laptop itself? HELP!:confused::confused::confused:

"Card" if you have a card installed it must be a very old Laptop and these may not work well with the new wireless routers.

WiFi has come a long way in the last 5 years.
