Moving file or folder

I had to re-load 10.6.8 onto my MacBook Pro. Now, when I try to move a file or folder, it copies it to the destination but also leaves the file or folder in the original location. How do I recover normal use in which I can move items without leaving a copy behind? (PS There have been other weird behaviors as well, which have surprised our IT professionals.) Thanks.

Have you done a Apple Menu > Restart?

Did you change the User Account name when you reloaded OSX?

Thanks for writing. Yes, I have done restart but that makes no difference.
YES, we did (inadvertently) change the user account name upon reloading OSX. Might that be responsible? If so, do you know the pathway to undo the difficulty? With best regards.
