I have been trying to use the "Move Item Here" option. I put a file on the desktop, and I made a folder on the desktop. I want to put the file in the folder with the "Move Item Here" option. I right-click on the file and choose "Copy." I then click on the desitnation folder and and click Option+Comman+V. I hear a "clonk," as if a file has been dropped, but the file is till sitting on the desktop and it did not go into the destination folder. To top it off, I can choose "Undo Move" from the Edit menu. What am I doing wrong?

I have to admit I've never used the Move Item Here command... Having made the switch from command line to mouse almost 30 years ago, I just drag and drop most of the time... if my source and destination locations are a long way apart, I occasionally use command x to cut the file then command v to paste it...
Hmmm, must experiment! What OS are you using?

I am using OS X 10.7.5.

The whole issue came up when a friend, who is a PC user, wanted me to "cut" instead of copy and paste, followed by deleting image files from a memory card.

It's just that I'm curious, and now that I know I have a "Move Item Here" option, I want to be able to use it. Alas, I'm too dumb!

Thanks, LeChuck. I'll have a wee play next time I'm on a 10.7 machine and see what I can learn. I have to admit that being able to cut, copy and paste in finder snuck past me and it took a switcher from windows to point it out to me!

Just to remind you: Under "Edit," "Paste" becomes "Move Item Here" when you go to the Edit menu while pressing the Option key.

Please let me know what you find out!

Hi LeChuck,

Works for me on 10.8.5.
One question after you have done copy, you are opening the folder you created on the desktop and clicking anywhere in it before moving the object?
Because if you just try an move the object to the unopened folder this will not work.

Yes, oldscribe, I had to open the destination folder. Just clicking on it once wasn't enough. What a simple solution. Thanks!
