Hi, having an issue with my mid 2009 macbook pro, running El Capitan.

regularly when leave the computer (lid up or down) it will not wake from sleep when i come back too it. The only option I have is too hard restart it with the power button. I've tried all the usual tricks including resetting SMC and PRAM and all the options from this guide, https://www.macissues.com/2015/05/08/how-to-fix-your-mac-not-waking-from-sleep/.

Is it possible that it's a hardware issue? I replaced the original hdd with a ssd about six months ago and then replaced the fan about 3 months ago but the issue has only become a problem in the last month. Any tips or advice would be super helpful, cheers!

I have a mid 2013 13" MacBook Air, and I am not having this issue. But, I would suspect that the new SSD and new fan would not cause this problem.

What version of El Capitan are you using? Version 10.11.6 came out about 5 to 6 weeks ago. In case you need it, you can download the Combo Updater from here:

https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1885?locale=en_US

Also, in doing a google search about this issue, there seems to be a "connection" with VMWare Fusion, which is software that allows Windows products to run on a partition of your Mac. This link mentions it:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7265944?tstart=0

Here are all the links that came up after a Google search of "MacBook Pro not waking up from sleep mode with El Capitan":

https://www.google.com/search?q=Mac...ome..69i57.19390j0j3&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

I looked at a couple of those, but saw nothing "definitive" for fixing the problem.

I guess if you have a recent backup, you could try a clean installation of El Capitan (including applying the OS 10.11.6 Combo Updater), and see if that helps. As part of that, the partition on your SSD drive containing El Capitan (and your other "stuff") would be Erased and Re-formatted).
