messages now working

I can receive messages but cannot send one. when I key in a name it does not recognize it so it seems it is not connected to my contacts.
Also I can't send a message to anyone by noting my contact list is that the way it is sup[posed to work?
when some one says send a text to " text RBG to 5409" I have only one line to in messages to put the address and I don't know how to structure

Sorry for the delay.

I assume this is on an iPhone, correct? If so, which version of iOS?

You should be able to open Contacts, tap the contact you want to message, tap the Message icon, and it should open a new message window.

"text RBG to 5409" - that just means use 5409 as the recipient, and in the body of the text message type in RBG.
