Malware? No way!

I'm getting popups for "Clean My Mac" (ironic) and other times strange search portals. I was advised not to add 3rd party anti-malware so, how do I clean this up Apple style? This is an area where the resident police are not very user friendly.

There are now malware web sites, that can hijack your browser, if you are running an old OS or old browser.
Security is the big reason to to keep all Software upgrades and updates done.

Check that you have Block pop-up windows enabled, in your browser, see if that stops the problem

I checked: Do not allow any site to show popups. Enable phishing and malware protection. Send a "do not track" request with your browsing traffic.
I think that's all that's available.
