Mail self-reformatting email anxt

Can anyone tell me why and how to fix my emails being reformatted when I store them in my mail boxes. I put them in in the same format they were written in, but when I open the mailbox to reread them they are all strung out into huge long lines followed by wee short ones. I hate it! Any advice? -Which version of Mac OS X?
-Are you using the Apple Mail app or viewing mail via a web browser like Safari?
-Did this issue just start?

Hi Cory: thanks for the reply and welcome.
I am running Yosemite 10.10.5. New machine 2015.
I'm using the mail app. I've only had this machine for six weeks
but I've seen the problem before on other machines I've used.
It would be great if you could help. Thanks.

OK...

-Do you have more than one email account setup?
-Who is the ISP/email provider?
-Is the account setup as POP or IMAP (if you know)?
-Did you change any of the default settings/preferences in Mail - i.e. font, etc.?
-Did you setup this Mac as new, or migrate from an older Mac?

We'll see if we can get this resolved.

I have two email accounts: one is @vodafone.co.nz
the other is @clear.net.nz.
Both accounts are POP.
Mac set up as new with no imports.
Have I altered the default settings? Hmmm, I may have
