Not sure if anyone here has been following the news, but MacKeeper has definitely been in it! Quite a few folks here (including myself) warn people very strongly not to use this piece of crap! Recently, due to deceptive advertising, and the results of a class action lawsuit, ZeoBits, the company that "owns" it, needs to pay $2 million in "refunds" for folks who purchased it. Here is the story (via the site www.maccentral.com) that describes this:

Note that if one paid $39.95 for the product, the amount to be refunded could be very, very small.
So, stay away from MacKeeper!
