Mac G5 behavior:
Mac G5: No startup or HDrive sounds when ON. Black monitor screen.
Monitor LED blinks 3x, then steady 4 sec. Then this repeats as a continous pattern.
After a minute or so the FANS start working very loudly.
ATTEMPTED REMEDY: replace RAM memory sticks (4) with new ones.
-after this, Mac worked great for 5 hrs. Then was shut off.
-Next morning it booted up, showed desktop, laser mouse was on, then Mac FROZE. I shut it off.
- Put it ON again from monitor LED; Mac showed a lighted screen with APPLE SYMBOL and sat there, did nothing. I shut it off.
-ON again. Mac had a black screen and a steady LED light on the monitor. I shut it off.
-ON again; this time Mac had the SAME SYMPTOMS as before new RAM installation:
Black screen, monitor LED flashes 3X then stays steady for about 4
seconds. This pattern REPEATS continually. After a couple
of minutes the cooling FANS start to run fast. I think that may be a default behavior. I shut it off.
My TECH SUPPORT suspects one or some of the NEW no-name brand RAM memory sticks are defective and
will replace them with name-brand RAM sticks. We await the result!
Has anyone run into this problem?
Could it be caused by something like "too many file documents" on the computer's
desktop? How about a power supply problem?
Suggestions are welcome.
