MacBook : Slow Optical Reader

MacBook 13" OS X 10.6.8 : importing some CDs to iTunes and the process is going much, much slower than it has previously; any thoughts -- should I replace the reader? Thanks!

Hi,

If performance is slower than before, it's entirely possible the laser is dirty or failing. Maybe try blowing some compressed air into the slot. If that doesn't work, try and borrow an external drive and see results.
You may have to replace the reader but it is working so a +sign.

Some encode take longer too. Have you changed this?

May be the CD have some dust accumulated on the surface or on the lens itself. Try to clean it off and retry.
