Macbook pro ios software install

Hi I have been working on this laptop that i bought but cannot get the software working
it has mountain line on and it does not work on my MacBook pro no connection to servers i am trying to get el capitano or mojave but i cannot find these as it is a big issue as i cannot use safari on my mac to download
is it possible to use another browser to download software as when i try in say yahoo it just links back to safari
i have looked for them on my pc but this does not appear straight forward to get them across
does this site have any of these os to download or know where i can get them but not from the app shop as i cant get on there

If you are connected to the internet and are happy using the terminal.
open terminal >
softwareupdate --list-full-installers


this will list the available downloads

then >
sudo softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version ??.?.? (version number to suit your requirement)
