Mac Notes

I was scrolling through the list on my Notes. Suddenly they all dissapeared! There is nothing in the Notes on my desktop either. (I have always had trouble getting Notes and Calendar to sync from my phone to my desktop) My iPhone 5S is up to date with 9.2, and I run my desktop with Yosemite 10.10.5. I have already checked for a Notes folder in my email. It was empty.
Any ideas on how to find my badly needed list?

-Are you using an iCloud account to sync notes?
-If so, can you see the notes if you login to icloud.com?
