Mac not connecting to my PC

Hi I have just bought a refurbished mac and have tried connecting it to my pc, I have gone to GO, connect to server, browse, see my computer and name come up, double click, it tries to connect but comes back connection failed. Please help it is driving me mental. I have Windows 10 on my PC. Whoever is kind enough to answer please no techie language as I am just getting used to this mac. Thank you. Dani x
