Mac desktop won't work!

So, when i turn on my desktop it works fine until i get past the log in screen. Once log in i can only see my background, and none of my icons or task bar appear. Please help!!!

You first need to tell us 1) the exact Mac model you have, and 2) the exact OS you are using.

Also, was everything fine previously?
