mac all funny after hard drive replacement

ok i had my hard drive upgraded to a 500gb, but when ever i am surfing the web and listen to music it crashes but yet when i am on photoshop its fine, a little spinning wheel comes up, a man said it would be because of bad sectors on the hard drive, but he wanted #60 an hour to fix it, anyone else know how to do it?
