Mac 10.3.9 G5 How to update to 10.4

Mac is about 9 years old, eveyring is 10.4, Can't afford new one, is there a way to change my Mac 10.3.9 to a 10.4 ????? :( I just bought a new 4 in one printer and yep its for 10.4.......now what??????
