Hello,

Seemingly random, about every 15-20 minutes or so, there is a short loud gong/beep emitted by
my desktop imac.

No idea what causes.
Really annoying.

Anyone know what is causing, and how to eliminate
it from happening. (some kind of "event" ?)

Thanks,
Bob

What is the default alert sound set to? Is the gong/beep the same as the default? Reboot in Safe Mode. Let it run a while. Does the gong/beep sound still happen? If not, it’s probably caused by one of your login items. Restart in standard mode and check your login items in System Settings. See if you can find any one on the list as a possible cause. It could get laborious but you may have to disable them by one by one or by group, until the alert sound stops.

Yes, it can be laborious. You can try using Activity Monitor to look for the villain, but that can be even more difficult. Or, how about changing your default alert sound? If it’s a system glitch, you could resort to reinstalling macOS. Lots of work, but can be very educational.
