I can print, no problem. I can display the printer's status page via a web browser. Scanning is the only function where my iMac and the Canon cannot communicate with each other.

I've jumped thru all the hoops:
  • Updated drivers to latest Sequoia-ready versions
  • Manually deleted all drivers and reinstalled latest drivers
  • Deleted and re-created printer/scanner (multiple times)
  • Rebooted printer/scanner, router, and iMac
  • Tried Wi-Fi & USB connection
  • Etc
Nothing in my hardware setup has changed from the last time I was able to successfully scan. I have to assume it's Sequoia-related?

Spoke with Canon Support--they insisted it's either a) "not a good enough connection between the scanner and computer" or b) Software related... She said because I can print, display the printer's page via my browser...that it must be Mac (or ISP)-related.

Are there (security or other?) settings in Sequoia that might affect communication?

(Partially) SOLVED: The only step I didn't perform during my extended attempts to get it to work was to install the FAX DRIVER. I don't need/won't use that function. so I didn't bother to install it.

When I installed it just now, I was able to see the device--but only with the MacOS Image Capture app. Neither of the Canon-supplied software can see the device: MF Scan Utility & MF Toolbox. Nice goin', Canon.

I'm back to square one. There's some kind of issue between Sequoia and the Scanner drivers. I can do everything between the computer and the Canon except scan.

In an effort to continue to try to make the Canon utilities communicate with the device (after I got Image Capture working), I ended up back where now the device and the computer just won't acknowledge each other--for the scanning function. Again, printing, supply levels, print page via browser all work fine...

I started over for the eleventeenth time... reset printer, uninstalled all drivers and other Canon software... and then TURNED OFF MY VPN and re-installed everything. Even tho I had "local network access" selected, it was borking the connection between the Mac and the Canon. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Image Capture AND the MF Scan Utility now work normally.

Canon MF Toolbox does not.

I'm counting this as a win.

It's kinda reasonable when you think about it. A VPN will change your IP address and I have found a couple of other things that don't work with VPN on, such as Handoff between my iPhone and MBP as well as the new iPhone Mirroring app in Sequoia 15.1
