locking out internet access

I do not feel safe leaving my Imac connected to the internet while away for an hour or more. I have in the past turned off the router but that kills my wife's smart phone and the PC. Is there some way I can disconnect like I do on the PC??

You could either turn off WiFi if applicable OR pull out the blue ethernet cable

You can also disable Wake for network access/Wake for Ethernet network access/Wake for Wi-Fi network access (depending on your Mac's capabilities) in System Preferences > Energy Saver and simply sleep the iMac when you are away.
