Am trying to convert from 10.6.8 to Lion and would like to bring over my user prefs. Migration assistant would not work... stalled every time I tried it.

User prefs are invisible though on my newly formatted Lion HD... how to access? I'd like to bring over my prefs from my Snow Leopard HD to the Lion HD.

Thanks.

I found an old app utllity I used years ago called File Buddy. This allowed me to make the folder visible for editing.

Option - Go Menu
Then Drag and Drop it in the sidebar

There is a reason Apple made it invisible, now yours has the wrong Unix settings. Don't be surprised if something breaks when you start using iCloud.

Don't understand your instruction.

Won't be using iCloud... I'm way too old for that neat stuff any more. Thanks.

Finder has menus at the top of the screen one of those is the Go menu.
If you hold down the Option Key while using the Go Menu you will see Library between Home and Computer choose it there takes you straight to your Library.

If you really need to go there often, you can Click/Hold the Little Library Folder Icon in the Library Window Titlebar, then drag it to either the Toolbar or Sidebar Favourites. Then its only a click away.

You should also be aware that if Migration Assistant failed to migrate your Preferences it may have had its reasons, there is nothing worse for making a crashie Mac than corrupt, damaged or wrong Preference Files. So if you have manually added the plist files proceed with caution.

Thanks! and thanks for warning too! I tried it 3 times (migration) and 3 times it just hung up at the very end of the process w/o any error message, etc.

Regards & cheerio.
