hello everyone, i recently have had a problem with my desktop mac
WHen i turn it on i hear the start up noise, then the screen goes grey with the apple logo and spinning wheel and stays like that forever.
I started it up in safe mode and still it stays on that screen
so I started it with shift+command v which gave my a log of how it was starting up
it is stuck on
May 14 14:49:45 Macintosh-2 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.mDNSResponder[211]): getpwnam("_mdnsrespnder") failed
and just keeps repeating that over and over every 10 seconds.
anything help?
THANKS!

Hi,

If you have the installation disks then try to boot from them.

1) Put the Mac OS X install disc, into the iMac's optical disc drive.
2)Turn off the iMac if it is on,and wait for the iMac to completely power down.
3) Turn on the iMac by pressing the power button.
4) Immediately hold down the "C" key, keep holding down the key while the iMac powers up.
5) Let go of the "C" key only after you hear the disk drive begin to spin.
