Keyboard viewer?

So I'm trying to see my "keyboard viewer", whereby I can select special characters, like accented characters. But when I "Show Keyboard Viewer" in the menubar, I just see the attached frame, which tells me NOTHING about my keyboard. How do I get a real keyboard viewer?

Ah, but I now understand that if you just hold down an alphameric key, you'll see the character options for it. Nice. Never realized that!
