my macbook keyboard has started behaving very erratically, it drags items without clicking on them, sometimes when typing, the icon jumps so i end up typing in the middle of a word ive already typed, it selects items randomly,

ive done a full restore which didnt help, and downloaded clamXav to see if there was a bug, but nothing,

ive carried out a PRAM and SMC reset, no change, and ran an apple hardware test, which didnt show anything up,

please note im not very computer/mac literate so please be patient!!!

any help please

You know... from what you describe, it sounds to me like your thumb is dragging on your touch pad without you realizing it while you are typing... It sounds like you have gone through the steps to see if it is a hardware problem or software problem...

On your system can you adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad? You might want to just observe for a few days and see if that isn't what is happening... I know it used to happen to me all the time so I got a blue tooth keyboard and mouse I always use with my Macbooks now.

Agree, I have seen this many times. People are so intent on the screen they don't notice they have inadvertently touched the the trackpad.

One of the things that can limit the problem is to turn off Tap To Click.

The other thing to try is cut a piece of plastic just a bit bigger than the trackpad and cover it while typing. This will help see if its a user problem or a hardware problem. (we use an old ice-cream container for the plastic)
