Hi everyone
I have a fleet of 3 iphones. 1x 3G, and 2x2G, all being synced on a Mac Pro 8-core 3.2GHz, 10GB RAM, etc etc.
When the 2.0 software came out, I upgraded all their firmwares. Same thing with 2.1.
Since the initial upgrade to 2.0, it seems, that the iPhone is the most unstable device I have ever touched.
I will start off by mentioning that I am finding the same problems with all 3 phones, none of the following anomalies are unique to a single device.
Lets ignore the copious amounts of application crashes where they just quit and that is the end of the story, instead lets focus on the fact that I do 1 restore a day PER PHONE.
I have a collection of approximately 50 app store apps. I have never been able to have any phone ever install with all apps at once. The phone freezes during sync, restarts, and hangs on the silver apple. Leaving it like this for an hour or so does nothing. Full restore ahoy.
3 times out of 5 however, the phone will actually freeze during the sync (while it is installing apps) and not restart. I know this because the little flashing "Slide to cancel sync"animation stops dead.
Upgrading apps, even just one, will make the phone restart while syncing, and hang on the silver apple OR just freeze on the sync screen. Once again, leaving for even an hour still has no effect. Restore time.
Downloading or upgrading apps "over the air" using the App Store makes the phone completely freeze. No restart, just freeze. Not doing anything else but watching the progress bar on the app itself. When I force restart, it hangs on the silver apple. Restore time again.
Restoring from backup. I have left this go overnight numerous amount of times. I have never successfully restored from backup. Ever. Thats right, freeze during restore. Force restart. freeze on silver apple. Completely WASTED 4 hours of creating a backup since they never work.
When the phone freezes and is connected to iTunes, nothing happens, but when unplugging, something curious happens; the iPhone screen in iTunes appears for half a second directly after unplug then disappears again. Stupid thing. Happens every time too.
The only thing that works is syncing mp3s, email addresses and contacts WITHOUT TOUCHING the apps.
Steve, we all know how ANTI 3rd party apps you were. Why take it out on us?
So... should I burn my iPhones or donate them to www.willitblend.com? I'm THIS close to doing that.
Any ideas anyone?
