Hello there!

I hope you all are doing well and started 2025 on the right foot. I am reaching out to seek expert advice regarding a potential logic board upgrade for my 2015 27" 5K iMac. Specifically, I am interested in exploring whether it would be possible to swap the logic board with one from a 2020 or 2019 5K iMac.

Before anything: I'm not doing this out of interest of just having a better iMac, but also as a techincal experience and project. So answers such as: "Just buy a newer one instead" or "Is not worth it for the money" are not what we need here, since this is more a technical project for the thirll of it rather than just the best value for the money.

That said, I am aware that this type of upgrade is complex and may require modifications, such as using a Dremel to adjust the case for port alignment. However, my primary concern is compatibility with internal components, including the display, power supply, cooling system, and other hardware.

From my research, I’ve seen examples of users successfully swapping logic boards from 2015 to 2017 and 2017 to 2019 models, which makes me believe a 2019 logic board might be a feasible option. However, I am unsure about the specific changes or modifications required to ensure full functionality.

Could you please provide insight into the following:

1. Is it possible to swap a 2020 or 2019 logic board into a 2015 5K iMac?

2. What modifications would be necessary to make it fully functional (e.g., firmware, power supply, display compatibility)?

3. Are there any known issues or limitations with such a swap?

I am considering hiring an expert to assist with this project, so I would greatly appreciate your professional advice on whether this upgrade is feasible and what steps would be involved.

Thank you for your time and expertise. I look forward to your response
