imovie & iphoto/photos in el capitan

I have a teacher who recently upgraded to El Capitan. He migrated his photos from iPhoto to Photos, but cannot get his iMovie projects to recognize the photos in their new location. Is there an easy fix to relink the images to the iMovie project?

I had a quick search of the internet and found a few things …

OS X: If you can't see iPhoto images in other apps ...

I also found this … it refers to clips but might also be handy for photos.

I open the Project in iMovie find the new location in the Event Library. I drag the clip over the top of the broken clip in the Project and it asks me if i want to replace it. I say yes and done.
