Immortal App!

So... In an effort to escape the dreaded "Google Chrome Helper," I downloaded and tried out Firefox for a few weeks. One day it stopped responding (spinny wheel, etc.) and I was never able to use it again. My computer, apparently, considers this app to still be open- its icon has the dot under it in my dock and when I hit command-option-esc its on the list of open apps. I have tried to force quit from both the dock and from command-option-esc window, neither work. The weird thing is, if I open Activity Monitor, there are absolutely no Firefox processes listed. Also, I tried force quitting with Terminal using the 'killall [firefox]' command and, predictably, it said that there were no matching processes to quit. So my question is WTH? I just want to quit the app so I can delete Firefox from my computer. Chrome is much better anyway in my opinion (even with the blasted 'helper'). THANKS!!!
