iMail suddenly will NOT send without the vpn on

i did not change anything i can think of in the settings. but i have to connect vpn every time just to send an email now. ANNOYING

anyknow know how to fix this problem so it goes to normal?

Hello and welcome.

-What version of OS X/macOS?
-You are using the Apple Mail app, correct?

I believe that most VPNs add proxy settings in  > System Preferences... > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced... > Proxies. If there is a proxy added/enabled, you have to be connected to the VPN to use it and send mail. If you aren't connected to the VPN, you would need to disable the proxy. It might be best to setup and additional Location in Network - one for the VPN and one without.

didnt see any proxies and have tried full reinstall of accounts and also port asisgnements.

still no fix. this is so frustrating and occurs on two of my computers the same way now. im stumped
