iMac wakes from sleep unbidden

My iMac has started waking from sleep for no apparent reason. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to stop this happening? ( OS 10.6.8)

Hi Phil,

Just possibly it is an app or program wanting to gain net access, when this next happens check your activity monitor for any clues.

Thanks Oldscribe. I found that the the fault lay with either the keyboard or mouse. I went to System Preferences/Bluetooth/advanced and then disabled "Allow Bluetooth to wake this computer". I now wake it from sleep using the "on" button on the back of the screen and all is well.
