Hi Team,
I copied ten MP4's onto a USB stick that I formatted on my iMac as EXFAT and the issue that I am experiencing which is quite strange is that all the file sizes and names are correct, but only a particular three of the files will actually playback from the USB stick (either on the iMac or on a Windows PC).

All the original ten files that are still on the iMac hard drive playback absolutely fine.

I have re-formatted the USB stick (once on the iMac and once on a Windows PC) and tried again but with the same results.

Any idea's please?

Thanks

I format USB's Mac os extended if I know they will be played on a Mac. Otherwise I use FAT32 if I know they will be played on a windows PC.
EXFAT formatting may have issues with some older windows systems.

Good Luck.

Hi Dchyde,
Forgot to mention that I am trying to playback the EXFAT formatted USB stick on Windows 10, Windows 11 & the iMac, all with the same result, only three of the files playback on any of the machines.

I am assuming that the 10 original mp4 files are on your desktop or in a folder somewhere. Do they all playback on the computer they were compiled on. ie your iMac. What is the capacity of the USB stick. Now, may I ask what program did you use to create the mp4 files.
If you make a new folder and drop the 10 pm4 files into that, do they all play OK on your computer. If so. them I suggest the issue is with the USB stick.

Do you know what codec was used to compress the mp4's? Both Windows and Mac will play h.264 files with ease, but if the MP4's are compressed using the h.265 codec then they wont play on either macOS or Windows without a 3rd party player.

I would recommend getting a copy of VLC (https://www.videolan.org) for both of your Windows machine as well as on the iMac and see if they will play in VLC.
