iMac model A1311 - Booting and starting up issue (checkered screen)

Slow boot up. Screen appears checkered from beginning (see image) It freezes if I select anything to open.



Anyone could let me know what the issue may be? Hardware im guessing...what are my options to fix this?

You should try the SMU resets, but I think you are right hardware, take it to an AppleCare Service Centre near you.

Looks like the video card to me, depending on the model of iMac. Definitely take it to an AASP.

Thanks fellas! I even hooked up a second monitor and the same checkered screen appeared on it..so Im guessing it def is hardware.
