Hello!

My iMac (2017) was completing a software update, but this was then cancelled mid-way through. As a result, the startup disk is missing (when turned on, black screen with flashing icon of folder/question mark). We have tried re-starting whilst holding ‘command’ and 'R' and have selected 'first aid' for the disks that are present. There is a drive called 'Update' as well. When this drive is unmounted, I can successfully first aid the other drives, however, error messages pop up for first aid if I have 'Update' mounted. I have also tried to erase the disks but the progress bar never progresses (even when left overnight), and so I just restart.

When I try to re-install the update from recovery mode, it says something about not being able to connect to server (wifi connection is strong). I don’t mind if data is lost on computer. Have tried to install from Time Machine back-up I have on an external drive, however, the back-up is for a different iMac so I’m not sure this is possible.

I'm at a loss on where to go next. Any advice?
