I'm new to imac

I just recently bought a imac g3. I got it from waste near my city. It works fine. Has limited software installed. I found a bunch of stuff on the free shelve. So getting to my question. I bought some dvd rw+ and wanted to format them. My g3 comes with a burner. When I put blank disk in it spits it right back out again. It does play CD music and has read the free software I found. Is there a compatibility issue here. I hope I came to right place.

The iMac G3 do not support DVD's the specs on the optical driver are Slot-loading 24x CD-ROM or 8x4x32 CD-RW
