This latency problem has still not been resolved in Tahiti (French Polynesia).

If I launch iChat by the terminal (/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7) I got this :

So the bandwidth test says my connection speed is 0 upload & 0 download !

I just can notice that before 10.4.6, the "(bwd.c:400) NumEstimates" line was always equal to zero and now this is 1 (but it's still < 4) ...

I must say that iChat v2 was working perfectlly well (audio and video) with the same configuration ...

So, could you please tell us what update my ISP (www.mana.pf) should do for the ichat's bandwidth test to work (assuming that we're lost in the south pacific ocean and Internet here go through satellites) ?

Could Apple do more for this latency pb ? Coul them "recompile" (I don't know the word in english) iChat v2 to make it work with Tiger ?

We have been waiting so long now ...

Hi there and welcome !

I know you're frustration !

iChat is great when it works, but very annoying when it doesn't.

Fortunately, 99 time out of a hundred I always 'connect' with other iChat users successfully, I still have problems with PC users !!!

Thanks for the log above, it helps a lot !

I shall have a dig around and see if I can come up with anything !

My honest opinion would be if you really need/want it then I would be tempted to wipe your hard drive, make two partions one for Panther and one for Tiger, then when you wanted to use iChat you could reboot...select the Panther Partion for StartUp and then Chat happily away...

I know it's not ideal, but if it worked before !

As Cory states in the other thread...it's all about "Bandwidth" how much you have and how much iChat thinks you have !

I shall have a dig around to see if I can find the "hardwarerulesH264-G4.plist" and see if there is anyway to 'alter' it to try and fool iChat into thinking you have more Bandwidth than it can see !

As for recompiling "iChat v2" for Tiger, I understand what you mean...but it doesn't work like that ;-)

Another thought, have you tried copying iChat v2 back on to your "Tiger" mac and see if it will run ? You can copy off your original Panther install CD's !

regards

Ric
