iCal time accuracy?

I have a Mac script that I use to archive mail nightly. It normally runs at 3am. I never see it happen while it's happening, but it works great. I was diddling with it, and wanted to test it out, so I set it in iCal to execute at 6pm, a few hours after my diddles. I notice that at 5:42pm the script is executing. Huh? I checked and yes, it was scheduled "from 6:00pm" "to 7:00pm". (I'm not really sure what the "to" is all about.) Not a big deal, but with what time accuracy can I expect a scheduled task to execute? You'd think it would be more accurate than that. Is there a more precise way to tell it when to execute?

I mean, if I'm going to schedule an alarm to wake me up at 7am, I'd rather it not execute at 6:42am.

Hello and welcome.

-Which version of Mac OS X?
-Is this a portable or desktop Mac?
-Are the date and time correct on your Mac?
-Do you have Turn on time zone support enabled in iCal > Preferences > Advanced?
