Ibook cd/dvd drive disapeared

I have a Ibook (G3) 500mhz 320mb ram 20gb that I have had problems booting, have now managed to get in to desktop and all seems to work but CD/DVD is not shown as available in Finder or anwhere else, I am a Mac newbi and as such have not got a cle as to how to get it seen, any suggestions greatfully received.

Hello, if you mean that you can't see the icons of your CD's and DVD's on your desktop, go to Finder preferences and make sure that the CD's, DVD's and iPods box under the Show these items on the Desktop heading are checked.
In addition, got to your system preferences and click on the CD's & DVD's icon and make sure that they are not set to Ignore. :)

Oops, I meant go to your System Preferences not got to your System Preferences. How can one got to their System Preferences? I'll learn how to spell one of these days! :eek:
