The other day I was online downloading something when the computer froze, so i shut it down, when i turned it back on and tried to login to my usual user account (there are 2 user accounts), i type in my password and it goes to load and then it freezes. But the second user logs in just fine. I tried so many things, the only way I can access the first user is to restart in "safe boot". When I try to log in normally it freezes - nothing on the screen, no finder menu, no hard drive or files etc. Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? Please help! (I have MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8)

Hello and welcome.

It sounds like something in the first user became corrupted when the MBP was shut down after the freeze. Since you can login to it after a safe boot, then maybe something in the startup or login items is at fault.

You could always try to repair disk permissions using Disk Utility. Also, login to the first user after a safe boot and let us know what items are in System Preferences... > Accounts > first user > Login Items. Maybe there is something there we can remove.

Let us know if those don't correct the issue.
